This post presents the first two chapters of «American Post-Judaism: Identity and Renewal in a Postethnic Society» by Shaul Magid. The first chapter is entitled «Be the Jew You Make: Jews, Judaism and Jewishness in Postethnic America,» and the second is «Ethnicity, America, and the Future of the Jews: Felix Adler, Mordecai Kaplan, and Zalman Schachter-Shlomi.» Throughout the book, Magid describes a new, postethnic American Jewish identity, that moves away from Zionism and the Holocaust as pillars of identity, presenting Jewish Renewal as a movement that strives for a new era in Jewish thought and practice.
