An Artist’s Interpretation of Eishet Chayil

This artistic interpretation of Eishet Chayil by Roni Pinto features the image of a woman lighting Shabbat candles, made up out of the Hebrew letters of Eishet Chayil. Roni Pinto explores religious and philosophical themes through the use of Hebrew letters in her work. Her explanation of this work can be seen below. This picture was posted on «Art for the Soul,» a blog on the Chabad website featuring creative works exploring life and Judaism composed by a spectrum of Jewish artists.

A woman covers her eyes with her hands and says the blessing over the Shabbat candles. Her hands are shaped like doves to represent welcoming peace and the Shechinah into her house. The drawing is made using the text of Eishet Chayil, which is traditionally sung at the table on Friday night in praise of the women of the house and the Shechinah. Eishet Chayil also represents the masculine side of G‑d praising His missing feminine half (the Shechinah).
